Boston Police Blotter: Man wanted for rape in Los Angeles found in Eastie

Authorities found a man wanted for rape in Los Angeles hiding out in East Boston.

Local and state police along with the U.S. Marshals arrested Jose Renderos, 66, a little before 7:30 Thursday morning on the first block of White Street in East Boston.

Renderos was wanted on a full extradition warrant issued by the Los Angeles Police Department in California for sexual assault. He was also wanted on a local fugitive from justice warrant. The Boston Police Department says he will be arraigned at municipal court in East Boston.

Man who struck 2 cops before getting shot sentenced to prison

A man who struck two Boston police officers with a stolen BMW in an attempt to flee a July 2024 traffic stop before one officer shot him in the head will spend eight to 10 years in state prison.

“This man’s reckless actions put both officers’ lives at risk and left one of them with injuries that … had an additional impact on the officer’s family,” Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden said.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury on Tuesday convicted Eyad Abbas, 25, of Roxbury, of one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and one count of receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Judge Joshua Wall on Thursday sentenced him to eight to 10 years in prison to be followed by 10 years of probation. Abbas is also restricted from obtaining a license or driving any vehicle during his probation and is required to be under GPS monitoring for the first two years of his probation.

On July 18, 2024, Boston Police responded to the Forest Hills MBTA station after a caller reported spotting a BMW X7 stolen from an Abington auto body shop.

Police approached the vehicle and spoke with Abbas, with one officer placing his hand on the door, when Abbas threw the car in reverse, throwing that officer back, before switching into drive and striking a second officer in a flee attempt. That second officer drew his pistol and fired through the window, according to prosecutors, striking Abbas in the face and causing him to crash into a parked car.

Both the second officer and Abbas were taken to hospitals for treatment. Abbas has a seven-page record of arrests and arraignments dating back to 2019.

Incident Summary

BPD responded to 255 incidents in the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the department’s incident log. Those included six aggravated assaults, two residential burglaries, three thefts from a vehicle, and 20 instances of miscellaneous larceny.
