St. Paul 14-year-old fatally shot in Burnsville grew up fast, needed more time, sister says
A 14-year-old who was fatally shot in Burnsville was a St. Paul resident, and his sister said Thursday she doesn’t know what brought him to Dakota County on Monday night.
Charles Darnell Moore Jr. “was forced to grow up fast and unfortunately became a product of his environment,” said his sister, Zaurice Steward, in a message. She described him as smart and laid back.
“He loved his family a lot, would do anything for them,” Steward added. “He would’ve had a bright future, just needed a little more time. He’s forever going to be loved and missed.”
Burnsville police responded to a report of a shooting about 10:30 p.m. Monday at Glen Apartments on Harriet Avenue near Burnsville Parkway. Officers and paramedics found Moore in the lobby area, where police said “life-saving measures were performed.” He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died.
Police had not announced an arrest as of Thursday and Steward said her family has not been told of any.
Steward has started a GoFundMe (gofund.me/b70f07785) for funeral expenses.
