Elderly man injured in West Newbury crash
Firefighters had to extricate a 70-year-old man from his pickup truck after a “serious” two-car crash in West Newbury Sunday morning, according to police and fire.
First responders were called the intersection of Main St. (Route 113) and Crane Neck Rd. around 11:15 a.m, the West Newbury Fire and Police Departments said in a joint statement.
When they arrived, they found the driver of a truck involved in the crash was trapped inside his vehicle.
After West Newbury firefighters, with support from Groveland and Merrimac firefighters, used extrication tools to remove the man from the truck, he was transported to a nearby middle school, where a medical helicopter was waiting.
The victim was taken to a Boston-area hospital with serious injuries, according to the statement. The driver of the other vehicle did not report any injuries.
The road remained closed into the afternoon so that investigators from West Newbury Police and the Mass State Police could examine the scene.
