Boston Fire responds to ‘manhole explosions’ in Back Bay

City firefighters were responding to multiple “manhole explosions” in Back Bay Tuesday evening.

Boston Police issued a traffic advisory alert due to the manhole fires at Dartmouth Street and Newbury Street.

“Boston Police and Boston Fire on scene,” Boston Police posted. “Newbury Street closed between Exeter Street and Clarendon Street.

“Pedestrians directed toward Massachusetts Avenue. Use alternate routes,” police added.

Firefighters responded to a call of multiple “manhole explosions” on Newbury Street, according to Boston Fire.

“The sidewalks has been evacuated from Dartmouth to Gloucester,” Boston Fire added.
