The Rhode Island State Police said they received 911 calls around 12:27 a.m. of a vehicle driving southbound on RT 99 North, the wrong-way, followed by calls that the same car had crashed on RT 146 in Lincoln, RI.

Police said that Denis Aguilar Campos, age 41, of Chelsea, had been traveling southbound on RT-146 North when he struck another vehicle with two passengers that had been traveling north.

When officers from the Rhode Island State Police and Lincoln Police arrived, they saw both vehicles engulfed in flames.

Former Quincy man sentenced for trying to sell 10 lbs of meth

A 39-year-old man who used to live in Quincy was sentenced to 10 years in prison on drug charges in federal court last week.

Samuel Jean-Baptiste pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances and possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine in September. In addition to prison time, Jean-Baptiste will also have five years of supervised release following his sentence.

Jean-Baptiste was arrested by federal agents after attempting to sell ten pounds of methamphetamines for $32,000 to a confidential police source at a gas station near Logan Airport in May of 2024, according to court cords.

The sentence is the minimum required by federal law. According to court documents, the government took into consideration the defendant’s past when recommending sentencing, which included losing his father to murder at a young age and experiencing physical and sexual abuse in the foster care system.

“The Defendant’s crime of bringing a large amount of methamphetamine into Massachusetts is serious,” the federal prosecutors said in their sentencing recommendation. “However, the Defendant’s behavior was likely influenced by his substance abuse issues and mental health issues, which were both exacerbated by trauma he experienced.”
