St. Paul Public Schools: No classes Friday due to frigid weather expected

St. Paul Public Schools is canceling classes on Friday citing the expected severe weather.

The National Weather Service is forecasting Friday temperatures not getting above -8 with wind chill values as low as -41.

Also, Friday will not be an E-Learning Day and Discovery Club, Adult Basic Education and ECFE will be closed, according to district officials. Athletic events and other after school activities also are canceled, though district officials said exceptions will be “made on a case-by-case basis.” And, varsity athletics may continue as scheduled though at the discretion of the site administrator.

District officials said Thursday’s after-school programs and activities also have been canceled. “The following afterschool programs are canceled: Extended Day Learning, Flipside and Middle School Athletics. Discovery Club will remain open until the last child has been picked up.”

Other Community Education evening activities and classes will be held as scheduled unless they’ve been changed in separate communications. And, High school athletics will be decided on a case-by-case basis, according to district officials.

West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan also cancels classes

Meanwhile, West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan School District also said there will be no classes on Friday due to expected cold temperatures.

The district issued this notification:

“As the district’s first weather-related cancellation of the school year, students will not participate in e-learning. The district’s Early Learning Center, School Age Care (SAC), elementary and middle school before- and after-school activities, as well as Community Education classes and activities, are cancelled. High school activities will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Coaches and advisors will be reaching out with more information.”
