Boston Police Blotter: Bruins brawl, senior-stealer sentenced
A man accused of pushing someone down the stairs at a Boston Bruins game at TD Garden over the weekend will be arraigned at the end of the week.
An arraignment for Aaron Tucker was originally scheduled for Monday but will likely take place on Friday instead.
Tucker, 48, of Vermont, was charged with assault and battery, causing serious bodily injury, and assault and battery on a person over 60/with a disability in connection with Garden incident.
Several officers on duty for the game against the New York Rangers responded to a report that a person had fallen off a balcony around 3:07 p.m. Saturday, according to a Boston Police report.
When they arrived, police said the victim was lying down, “semi-conscious, breathing with eyes slightly open” and an abrasion to the back of his head. He was transported to the hospital, and while on route, he told EMS that he didn’t remember the incident and had been drinking.
According to several witnesses mentioned in the report, the victim and suspect had been heckling each other. Other fans told police that friends of the victim tried to get him to leave before the fighting escalated and that a woman with Tucker tried to get him to leave, as well.
Instead, the situation did escalate, with the victim allegedly flipping off the woman with Tucker and getting physically close to the pair, witnesses said, before Tucker allegedly pushed the victim down the stairs.
Tucker left the Garden after the incident and was eventually arrested by BPD outside.
Serial robber sentenced for crimes against older adults
A Suffolk County Superior Court judge sentenced a 23-year-old Boston man to more than a decade in prison for a string of robberies he executed against older adults.
Edwin Santo was convicted on five counts of unarmed robbery of a person 60 or older and one count of breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony last month. On Monday, Judge Mark Hallal sentenced Santo to ten to 12 years in state prison for the former counts, plus two additional years and a day for the latter, as well as three years of probation after he’s released.
According to the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office, Santo went on the robbery spree through Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park during a two month stretch during the summer of 2024.
“In the first five incidents, Santo stole necklaces from around the neck of his victims,” the DA’s office said. “In one of those cases he broke into a private residence to do so.”
During the sixth and final robbery, a masked Santo robbed two elderly people of their necklaces at gun point.
“Edwin Santo made calculated, cold-hearted decisions to prey on those with the least ability to defend themselves,” Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. “He stole from many who came to America and earned their keep through honest, hard work—exactly the opposite of his approach. He’s now paying an appropriate penalty for his life choices.”
