Methuen man charged with killing his mother
A Methuen man was charged with shooting and killing his mother in her home, the Essex DA announced Tuesday.
Anthony Nunez-Romano, 26, was arraigned Tuesday on a murder charge for allegedly killing his mother, Dominga Romano, 55, of Methuen, in Lawrence District Court. Nunez-Romano was also charged with possessing a firearm without a firearm identification card and defacing the serial number of a firearm.
The defendant pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail Tuesday, the DA’s office said.
At around 5 p.m. Monday, Methuen Police were called for a wellbeing check at a home on Lyndale Avenue in Methuen, according to the DA’s office. Romano’s body was found inside, and responders pronounced the victim deceased.
Nunez-Romano was also found at the scene and taken into custody, according to media reports.
Assistant District Attorney Paige Timko represented the Commonwealth at the arraignment, and Nunez-Romano was represented by attorney Joseph Perullo, the DA’s office said.

One of Romano’s family members in the audience of the arraignment reportedly stood up and yelled at the suspect before being escorted out of the courtroom Tuesday, WCVB reported.
The victim was reportedly a teacher with Lawrence Public Schools. Lawrence Public School did not respond to an inquiry as of Tuesday evening.
The homicide is under investigation by the Methuen Police and Massachusetts State Police.
Nunez-Romano is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on Feb. 20.
