Jaylen Brown ruled out for Celtics-Raptors game
Jaylen Brown will not play Saturday night in Toronto.
The Celtics ruled out their leading scorer for their road matchup with the Raptors. The team initially listed Brown as doubtful for the game with an illness.
Brown played 35 minutes Friday night, recording 30 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and one steal in a 129-116 win over the Miami Heat at TD Garden. The four-time All-Star wing has scored at least 30 points in each of his last six games and nine of his last 10. He entered Saturday ranked sixth in the NBA in points per game (29.3) behind Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tyrese Maxey, Donovan Mitchell and Nikola Jokic.
This will be the second DNP of the season for Brown. The first also came during a back-to-back: Brown was ruled out with an illness for a Dec. 4 game against the Washington Wizards that Boston won 146-101. He returned the next night to tally 30-8-8 in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jayson Tatum (Achilles) was the only other Celtics player ruled out for Saturday’s game. The Raptors will be without starters RJ Barrett (knee) and Jakob Poeltl (back).
Boston took the first meeting between the Atlantic Division opponents this season, beating Toronto 121-113 at Scotiabank Arena on Dec. 7.
