Teen suspect arrested in connection to 2024 Mattapan murder
Boston Police arrested a 16-year-old on Friday for allegedly killing another teen in Mattapan over a year ago.
The male suspect who was not identified by police because he is a juvenile, was charged with murder, using a firearm while committing a felony, attempted assault and battery with a firearm, and carrying a firearm without a license.
Police arrested the teen around 12:26 p.m. in Jamaica Plain with a warrant from Suffolk Superior Court. He is expected to be arraigned there this week.
The arrest comes over a year after police responded to a report of a person shot around Gladeside Avenue and Donwood Terrace in Mattapan at 12:23 p.m. on July 5, 2024. Police arrived to find two victims, later identified as Stoughton High School students, with gunshot wounds. Christian Cousins, a 17-year-old rising senior, succumbed to his injuries while another unnamed victim survived.
“It is never easy to deal with the loss of a student, especially under these circumstances,” the Stoughton school district wrote in a Facebook post at the time. “Our thoughts are with Christian’s family, friends, and teachers, as well as the whole Stoughton High community. We are also keeping the other SHS student and their family and friends in our thoughts.”
The alleged murder took place during a spree of violence following the 2024 July 4th holiday, leaving two people dead and five people injured over the course of 24 hours and four separate shootings.
