NUEVA DELHI (AP) — Se cree que decenas de peregrinos de India, en su mayoría de un estado del sur, han muerto tras el choque de su autobús el lunes cerca de la ciudad sagrada de Medina en Arabia Saudí, dijeron funcionarios indios.
El vehículo con 46 personas a bordo viajaba de La Meca a Medina cuando se estrelló contra un camión cisterna que transportaba diésel en una autopista, le dijo Gaurav Uppal, alto funcionario del estado de Telangana, a The Associated Press.
Uppal, quien radica en Nueva Delhi y es uno de los principales funcionarios que coordina las labores de rescate con las autoridades indias en Arabia Saudí, afirmó: “Se teme que aproximadamente 45 personas de Telangana hayan muerto en el accidente, mientras que una persona está herida”.
Autoridades saudíes no respondieron de momento a una solicitud de comentarios.
