Red Sox first pitch delayed due to inclement weather

The start of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers has been delayed.

The Red Sox announced shortly before the game’s originally scheduled 1:35 p.m. start that the game will be “delayed briefly” due to weather in the area.

Former Red Sox great expected to rejoin Dodgers on Saturday

“Conditions are expected to improve this afternoon,” the announcement reads. “Further updates will be provided when available.”

The club subsequently announced the game will now start at 2:15 p.m.

The Red Sox enter Sunday with a 56-50 record and hold a half-game lead over the Texas Rangers for the final spot in the American League Wild Card race. Boston is also only a game behind the New York Yankees for second in the AL East and the top Wild Card spot, and a half-game behind the Seattle Mariners for the second Wild Card spot.

The Red Sox are also coming off a 4-2 win over the Dodgers on Saturday and can clinch the weekend series with a victory on Sunday. Walker Buehler (6-6, 5.72) is scheduled to face his former team for the first time as a member of the Red Sox, taking on Dodgers right-hander Dustin May (6-6, 4.73).
