Your turn: Money for migrants and Karen Read prosecutor’s $566K bill
Herald readers are lighting up our social media pages, from Facebook, X to Instagram, so today we offer up a sample of your opinions:
Off Monday’s Peter Lucas column: “The priorities in Taxachusetts are way off base … and apparently, the people like it that way?” (Peter wrote how $5 million is appropriated for a legal defense for illegal immigrants as defense lawyers strike for better pay.)
Plus, this response: “This is why people are fleeing MA for normal states, where their money is more fairly represented. Healey should be run out of town on a rail.”
That’s a sampling from Facebook, on X Peter sparked a storm:
“@MassGovernor you really think you’ll have a chance next election with this?”
“It’s all about ideology. The left needs new voters and that’s all there is to it.”
“The Democrats have lost the working class, so they need a new working class that is loyal to them. This explains their passion for illegals.”
“Bet the Boston Globe approves.”
And on this Pols & Politics lead item on ex-Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson finally having her official City Council photo taken down after the Herald inquired about why is was still up:
“When is she being deported?”
“Put the framed photo (in) the urinal in the men’s room. Good riddance felon.”
“Who is next?”
“The whole City Council is a disgrace! I’ve never seen Boston in a state of decline as it is now. DemoRATs are killing it with your help … What a shame.”
That was from X, here’s the same story on Facebook:
“That’s what happens when you throw (emoji) against the wall.”
“She was the best rep in the city too … she crashed out. And took the bait.”
“Wall of shame.”
On Karen Read special prosecutor Hank Brennan’s $566,000 bill:
“A complete circus and embarrassment.”
“Why were the taxpayers told he was joining the case with a $75K cap”
“Half a million to lose a case.”
“Now add his minions and experts.”
“He certainly didn’t get that kind of money representing Whitey Bulger!”
“Wu spent more prepping for DC trip.”
“What a screw job to the Mass taxpayers.”
“Lally could have got the same result.”
“Fraud, waste and abuse.”
“I guess his salary is not based on ‘pay-for-performance.’”
“He was no match for Karen’s dream team.”
And on Boston Teachers’ Union backing Mayor Michelle Wu, that ignited a small social media blaze:
“Did they really need an announcement like there was some question?”
“They’re just looking for another two years off.”
“Will the police union have her backside?”
“The union also pushed for the millionaire’s tax because it was supposed to help with education. That was a lie … never trust the teachers union. They are bias.”
And on Gov. Maura Healey not saying she’s out of state:
“Kind of like (L.A. Mayor) Karen Bass in Africa. Hope we don’t have something that needs her to be here.”
“Where is the audit?”
