Red Sox lineups: Roster stronger at first base after latest move
The Boston Red Sox were able to strengthen one of their greatest areas of need on Monday.
Utility man Romy Gonzalez has been activated from the 10-day injured list and will start at first base for the series opener with the visiting Los Angeles Angels. He last played on May 7, when he suffered a quad contusion colliding with Texas Rangers’ Josh Smith at first base.
Gonzalez’s return also enables the Red Sox to play Abraham Toro at third base. Other than Rafael Devers, Toro has the most hot-corner experience on the active roster by far. He’s also been one of Boston’s hottest hitters of late,
To make room on the roster the Red Sox optioned fellow utility man Nate Eaton back to Triple-A Worcester.
