40 arrested in ICE sweep on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard
Forty suspected illegal immigrants living on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard were taken off the islands Tuesday, including a “documented gang member” and at least one “child sex offender,” the agency announced.
The Coast Guard, FBI, DEA, and ATF all assisted in the sweep of the islands, with background checks still ongoing. The gang member is a suspected MS-13 illegal immigrant.
The coordinated sweep comes as ICE has vowed a “Second Surge” in Massachusetts as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown on illegal immigration.
“ICE officers and FBI, DEA and ATF agents worked together to arrest a significant number of illegal alien offenders which included at least one child predator,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde.
The Boston FBI office said they assisted “partners at the Department of Homeland Security with identifying and apprehending those who are breaking the law by violating our immigration laws and, in some cases, committing crimes that endanger public safety.”
The Coast Guard provided small boats and a cutter to support ICE operations on the islands, federal officials added.
