Man grabs Boston police officer’s gun, shoots self near MGH, Commissioner says
Boston police are investigating after a man near Massachusetts General Hospital grabbed a detail officer’s gun and shot himself on Cambridge Street, according to Commissioner Michael Cox.
Cox said the man suffered not-life threatening injuries after the single shot. He said the man was suffering mental health issues at the time of the incident.
Cox said the victim is being treated at the hospital and has been placed under arrest. Additional detail officers and members of the public came to the officer’s assistance, Cox said.
Cox said he was grateful for the help from the members of the public and that thee was no loss of life in the incident.
Photos from the scene show police tape blocking off areas of Cambridge Street, which was partially closed down.
