“And as you sit here today you have no bachelor’s degree?” defense attorney Robert Alessi asked witness Shanon Burgess during the exchange that highlighted Monday’s testimony.

“That is correct,” Burgess responded.

That followed an examination of three documents stating that he had earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham. Those are Burgess’ public LinkedIn profile, his staff biography on Aperture’s website, and the curriculum vitae — which is a more technical and academic form of a resume — that he provided to the attorneys and judge in the case.

Read, 45, of Mansfield, faces charges including second-degree murder in the death of John O’Keefe, a Boston Police officer who she had dated for roughly two years at the time of his death on Jan. 29, 2022. She was tried last year but that ended in mistrial. There have been 14 days of testimony so far in her retrial.

Prosecutors say that Read struck O’Keefe with her Lexus LX570 SUV sometime after midnight and left him to freeze and die on the front lawn of 34 Fairview Road in Canton.

This is a developing story.
