Italy April 2025: Jeep Avenger breaks all records

The Jeep Avenger is up to a record 2nd place overall in April.

The Italian new car market edges up 2.7% year-on-year in April to 139,084 units, meaning the year-to-date tally is now stable at -0.6% to 583,038. BEVs are up 108.1% to 6,667 sales and 4.8% share while PHEVs shoot up 77.4% to 8,036 and 5.7% share. Meanwhile HEVs are up 14% to 62,006 and 44.3% share, including 17,825 full hybrids (+12.7%) and 44,180 mild hybrids (+11.3%). Private sales fall -5.6% to 65,852 and 47% share vs. 50.9% a year ago, self registrations are down -14.3% to 13,962, long term leases soar 24.1% to 35,583 and short term rentals gain 12.5% to 16,762. Company sales are up 6.6% to 7,846.

Fiat (-19.6%) suffers once again but keeps the brands top spot at 8.8% share, its lowest of the year so far and compared to 10.2% year-to-date. Volkswagen (+8.4%) advances to #2, dislodging Toyota (+6.3%) while Peugeot (+48.3%) posts another excellent score at #4. Dacia (-0.5%) is stable and rounds out the Top 5 ahead of Ford (+10.5%), Renault (+0.5%) and BMW (+6.1%). MG (+50.5%), Alfa Romeo (+42.4%) and Jeep (+30.1%) impress in the remainder of the Top 20. Further down, BYD (+2852.6%) hits a record #21 and 1.2% share while Omoda+Jaecoo (+2034.1%) is up to a best-ever #28 and 0.7% share.

Over in the models charts, the Fiat Panda (-14.3%) falls to 6.4% share while the Jeep Avenger (+107.7%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to reach the 2nd spot overall, a new ranking record after hitting #3 four times. The Avenger also delivers a share record at 3.9% (previous best 3.5% last January) and a volume record at 5,370 (previous best 4,957 last month), yet it is stuck in 4th place year-to-date vs. #3 over the Full Year 2024. The Citroen C3 (+25.9%) stays #3 just as the Dacia Sandero (-25.5%) freefalls to #4 but remains #2 for the year so far. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+43.8%), Dacia Duster (+35.8%) and Peugeot 208 (+27.4%) all stand out below. As for recent launches, the MG 3 breaks into the Top 20 for the first time at #17, the Alfa Romeo Junior is up to a best ever #22, the BYD Seal U up to #31 and the Renault Symbioz up to #44.
