Protecting nurses

Nurses save your life. Nurses save your grandmother’s life. They serve a vital function in society. During the pandemic they were at bedsides battling an unknown illness knowing they could either contract it themselves, or worse, give it to their family at home. Yet, in Massachusetts, a person can walk into a hospital and can give a nurse a strong right hook to the face breaking her nose and jaw and only be charged with a misdemeanor. As a nurse you’re expected to accept this type of behavior as “part of the gig.”

Bill H2060 brought forward by State Rep. Steven George Xiarhos on Cape Cod hopes to provide stiffer penalties and deterrents by making it a felony to assault a nurse on the job. Contact your state reps and tell them to protect those that will protect you.

Sen. Schumer

What is more annoying than Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s many ponderous proclamations about our rapidly changing society is that his conference continues to support him as leader. After all, five years ago the minority leader stormed the ramparts of our Supreme Court and appeared to threaten Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, as disgraceful a display of political antipathy as I have seen.

Last spring, he excoriated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, called him unfit to lead the Jewish nation and implored Israelis to cast him out just as Netanyahu initiated a sustained combat that destroyed Hezbollah as an active participant in Iran’s grand schemes to destroy Israel and cripple our plans for the region, rendered Hamas leaderless and destroyed Iran’s air defenses.

I guess Schumer’s mania for keeping our money is just what his party wants, so they will support him until as few dollars are left in our wallets as possible.

Mass. budget

The Massachusetts budget is in trouble. Governor Healey wanted to tax prescription drugs and candy. That didn’t fly, thank God.  General tax collections have slowed to pre-pandemic levels of growth.  President Trump is clawing back over $100 million of unspent COVID funding because the pandemic is over.  But politicians would like the pandemic gravy train to run forever. Instead of finding ways to cut our bloated state budget, Healey’s team is looking for creative ways to generate revenue from other sources.  Only in Taxachusetts, more is never enough when it comes to taxpayers footing the bill.  Beacon Hill needs a dose of DOGE to reduce the tax burden on citizens.  Will it ever happen?
