Celebs show how to rock Super Bowl style
Football games used to be one of the last places you’d find on-point fashion. Maybe some flattering jeans and a fun leather jacket or two. Today, all bets are off.
Thanks to the likes of J Lo, Rihanna, Blake Lively, Gwen Stefani, and of course Taylor Swift, you can count on all kinds of designer duds and creative wardrobe spins in the stands — everything from sporty suits and miniskirts to bold monogrammed Louis Vuitton pieces and thigh-high black boots to denim Versace corset tops.
So as we come up on Super Bowl LIX, why not take some inspiration from the celebs who’ve had some fashion fun at past games? Here are some of their looks, and how you can borrow a few ideas and make them your own.
Let’s start with the queen herself: Taylor. She’ll no doubt be in rare form again at this year’s Super Bowl, to again support Travis Kelce as the Kansas City Chiefs square off against the Philadelphia Eagles. (The couple has worn matching beanie hats in the past, so that’s always an option if you and your better half are showing up at a Super Bowl party together.) But one of her favorite formulas is mixing sporty style with fashion-forward bits— pairing leather team jackets with Dior bags, for example. Or a Louis Vuitton half-zip sweater with a custom “87” necklace (a nod to Kelce’s jersey number).
Last year’s Super Bowl is a gold mine of inspiration. Swift attended in fancy-casual finery: a black crocheted Dion Lee top and crystal-studded jeans by Area (not to mention thousands of dollars in jewelry, according to reports). You might opt to skip the latter option, but you can grab the rest of the look easily enough. The top is on sale ($288 on ssense.com) and the jeans, after being sold out in most sizes for months, are back in stock ($695 on area.com). And in case there’s any doubt who your inspiration is, you can always toss on some of her signature red lipstick, too.
By her side was Lana Del Rey. She kept things simple with an all-black look — a v-neck top with long black sleeves and a black pant plus silver jewelry. It was all a backdrop to a custom jacket sewn up with vintage 49ers patches. There are plenty of others like it out there for your own closet, too — like the aptly named Super Bowl Lana Del Ray Leather Jacket ($119 on victoriajacket.com).
Also hanging with last year’s crew was Blake Lively, who rocked a full-on sporty-meets-stylish glam look: her red Balenciaga x Adidas tracksuit was paired with a cropped white tank. She completed it all with red, pointy-toed stiletto boots and chunky gold Tiffany & Co jewelry. The Balenciaga version is currently sold out, but the Adidas rendition isn’t ($80 on adidas.com).
Elsewhere at the game, tracksuit chic made its mark thanks to Gwen Stefani’s bold green and purple jacket ($115 on celebsleatherjackets.com). And Hailey Bieber showed off a big-statement, dramatically oversized leopard-print Saint Laurent coat (complete with shoulder pads), but kept it casual with a white T-shirt and loose-fitting jeans. And she upped the chic factor further with cool shades. You can nab your version of the look with the Mabel Leopard Print Oversized Coat ($729 on allsaints.com).
Or you can try the high-low look that J Lo wore in 2017, back when she and A Rod attended a University of Miami football game. She sported a bright red hoodie from designer Irene Roth, ripped jeans, and $900 white Buscemi kicks. Your own take could start with the bold red Michael Stars Jess Sweater Hoodie ($228 on anthropologie.com) and the Superstar Mixed Leather Low-Top Sneakers by Golden Goose ($595 on neimanmarcus.com) — an updated way to watch the game in snazzy comfort.
