Former pot-boss Shannon O’Brien continues fight to release details of her dismissal
The former chair of the Cannabis Control Commission will attempt again on Friday to allow the public to see more than 1,700 pages detailing the events that led to her ouster.
According to former CCC Chair Shannon O’Brien’s legal spokesperson, the state treasurer’s office and lawyers for the commission are working to prevent her side of the story from coming to light.
O’Brien was unceremoniously removed from her role by State Treasurer Deb Goldberg in 2023 and officially fired last September. The legal battle continues, her spokesperson told the Herald, because O’Brien, the former chair of the body responsible for regulating the state’s multi-billion dollar marijuana industry, wants the truth to come to light.
In the two years following her removal, O’Brien has been “paying for her legal defense and right to clear her name” while the state spends tax payer dollars “to slow the legal process down to a crawl, leaving O’Brien no way up to this point to clear her name and reclaim her reputation,” the spokesperson said.
A hearing on the matter is scheduled Friday at 2 p.m. in Suffolk Superior Court.
