Business People: Alma Flores to lead Latino Economic Development Center

The Latino Economic Development Center, St. Paul, announced Alma Flores as executive director. She succeeds board member and Interim Executive Director Uri Camarena, who filled in for Henry Jiménez, who is now the CEO of Propel Nonprofits. The center is focused on developing Latino-owned small business with access to capital, training and other services.

The Imagine Group, a Shakopee-based provider of visual communications for business, announced that Mike Lang has been appointed chief information officer. Lang most recently was CIO at CommonBond Communities, an affordable housing provider.

CONSTRUCTION

M.A. Mortenson Co., Golden Valley, announced that CEO Dan Johnson is retiring on Dec. 31, with company President Derek Cunz succeeding him as president and chief executive officer on Jan. 1. Cunz was promoted to company president in 2022. Johnson will continue to serve on Mortenson’s board of directors. … Jet-Black, a Savage-based national franchisor of asphalt sealcoating and maintenance services, announced that founder Andy Hoiland has sold the company to Chief Financial Officer Nick Kelso, who becomes chief executive officer. The company also announced the appointment of Vice President Luke Urbaniak. The company has 129 franchises in 16 states.

Pineapple Energy, a Minnetonka-based provider of solar energy products and services to households and small businesses, announced the appointment of Spring Hollis as an independent member of the board of directors. Hollis is founder of Star Strong Capital, a private credit asset manager.

Piper Sandler Cos., a Minneapolis-based investment bank, announced the addition of Jeff Chen as a managing director in its chemicals investment banking team. Chen previously spent 16 years at Lazard, where he led private market advisory within the chemicals and materials practice.

Lifecore Biomedical, a Chaska-based contract manufacturer of pharmaceutical equipment, announced the appointment of Brikkelle Thompson as senior vice president of human resources. Prior to joining Lifecore, she held the position of head of human resources – the Americas at Teleflex.

Dakota Woodlands, a shelter for displaced families in Eagan, announced the promotion of Morgan Kluender to director of operations, and the hire of Melinda Brown as manager of client services.

Mothership Pizza Paradise is set to open next month at 5057 France Ave. S., Minneapolis, in the space formerly occupied by Arezzo Ristorante in the 50th and France shopping district. Proprietors are Chef Tommy Begnaud, Carrie Erickson and Courtney Briden, who together also operate Mr. Paul’s Supper Club nearby. … CaJah Salon Spa MedSpa announced the planned opening of an expanded location at 464 Snelling Ave S., St. Paul. Warden previously held similar roles at Invicti Security, GitLab, LogRhythm and HP/HPE Software. … Calabrio, a Minneapolis-based provider of human resources software and services, announced the appointment of Robert Rivera as chief sales officer. Rivera comes to Calabrio from Dynatrace, where he served as vice president of sales.

UTILITIES

Xcel Energy, Minneapolis, announced it has named Todd Wehner as treasurer and vice president, succeeding Paul Johnson, who will continue to serve as vice president, treasury and investor relations. Wehner most recently served as assistant treasurer at Michigan-based CMS Energy.
