Former adviser to John Kerry arrested on Nantucket
A one-time senior adviser to John Kerry was arrested on Nantucket for being a “fugitive from justice,” the island police stated in Saturday’s blotter.
Daniel Burrell was arrested at 3 Brewster Road on the island late Friday in a six-bedroom, eight-bath home that had an estimated worth of $15.3 million, according to Zillow. That property, according to a “New England Hot Property” alert and the Nantucket Current, was sold at auction the day before for $12.52 million.
Burrell served as senior adviser to Kerry during his presidential campaign in 2004. He once described Kerry as “an incredible mentor,” the Current added. Burrell also served in former US President Bill Clinton’s administration as a member of its Domestic Policy Council from 2000-2001.
Burrell is accused of writing a bad check for $1.5 million he allegedly handed to a Las Vegas casino, according to multiple reports.
Casino.org writes that Burrell has a long history of financial stumbles and that it all caught up to him on Nantucket this weekend.
