Netflix has officially finalized the screenplays for Skull Island season 2. Originating in Legendary’s Monsterverse, Skull Island premiered a few months before Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The animated tale takes place in the 1990s and follows a band of teenage heroes as they fight for survival on Kong’s island. Kong saves mankind while battling a massive Kraken in the first season.

Skull Island had a confusing ending that didn’t finish the stories of its characters, but the show hasn’t been given the go-ahead for a second season yet. Brian Duffield, the show’s executive producer, has some big news to share regarding the production. Duffield has reportedly finished writing the screenplays, as he announced on his Twitter account. American animator Brian Duffield created the animated adventure series Skull Island for streaming service Netflix. This is the first television series in the MonsterVerse franchise and the fifth installment overall. It follows Kong: Skull Island (2017).

A group of shipwrecked individuals, voiced by Nicolas Cantu, Mae Whitman, Darren Barnet, Benjamin Bratt, and Betty Gilpin, find themselves on Skull Island in the 1990s. There, they encounter gigantic prehistoric creatures, including the island’s self-proclaimed protector Kong. The series was produced by Powerhouse Animation, JP, and Legendary Television and animated by the South Korean studio Mir. Duffield and Jacob Robinson were the showrunners.

The Monsterverse, which includes Skull Island, is Legendary’s elaborate network of interconnected worlds populated by primordial monsters called Titans. So far, in the four live-action films that make up the series, we have witnessed Godzilla and Kong, the two reigning titans, protecting mankind from various dangers and, on one occasion, even warring with one another. Considering how much Kong had grown in that time and how the animated series shows him in his original proportions while also introducing new dangers like skullcrawlers, it’s reasonable to assume that the events of the series take place right after Kong: Skull Island. This would explain how Kong was captured in Skull Island by humans, an issue that has been largely unexplored on subsequent films.
