Patriots release disgruntled wide receiver Jalen Reagor from practice squad

The Patriots released veteran wide receiver Jalen Reagor from their practice squad, the team announced Tuesday.

Reagor, 25, was a first-round pick selected by the Eagles in the 2020 NFL Draft. He had been with the Patriots since being signed to their practice squad last August. He was added to the active roster last October and caught seven passes for 138 yards in 11 games last season. He also added one 17-yard carry and returned seven kicks for 221 yards with a touchdown.

The 5-foot-11, 197-pound wideout re-signed with the Patriots in March. He made the team’s initial 53-man roster but was cut a day later and signed to the practice squad.

Reagor’s release wasn’t the direct result of the social media post. The speedy wideout had expressed similar sentiments internally leading up to Tuesday’s roster move, according to a souce.

He spent most of training camp behind Ja’Lynn Polk, Tyquan Thornton, K.J. Osborn and DeMario Douglas on the wide receiver depth chart, competing for a spot with second-year pro Kayshon Boutte. The Patriots elected to keep Boutte on the 53-man roster when cutting Reagor in late August.

The Patriots also have rookie Javon Baker, who was active in Week 2, on their 53-man roster and Matt Landers on their practice squad.

Reagor, who has also spent time with the Vikings, is free to sign with another team.
