Baby and mother shot in Boston in ‘heinous’ attack, suspect on the run

A baby and mom were found shot in Dorchester driveway late last night in what the police commissioner is calling a “heinous” and “cowardly” act.

He’s also asking for the public’s help — “we really need the public’s help and support on this one a great deal.” That includes any video.

Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 11:39 p.m. on Monday to an address on Stratton Street and found an adult female and a “baby/toddler” suffering from gunshot wounds at an outside crime scene,” police said.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital. The baby’s injuries are considered life-threatening. The adult female has non-life-threatening injuries.

The “suspect/shooter” fled the scene and no arrests have been made, police added.

“This is a pretty heinous act in general, pretty cowardly,” Cox said of the shooting. “I can’t think of any reason why somebody would want to shoot a female and young child for any reason.”

Cox said at the scene around 1 a.m. that the shooting was in a “driveway area” and police are “canvassing the area.” He’s also asking for the public’s help. Trauma teams were also on scene to help.

This is a developing story …
