Source: Vikings sign defensive tackle Harrison Phillips to two-year extension

Since first signing with the Vikings in March 2022, defensive tackle Harrison Phillips has established himself as an important piece of the team’s defensive puzzle. He consistently has done the dirty work in the trenches without getting the same type of recognition as some of his teammates.

That relentlessness paid off Tuesday when Phillips got rewarded with a deal that will keep him in Minnesota for the foreseeable future. A source confirmed to the Pioneer Press that Phillips is signing a two-year extension, with NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reporting that it could be wort as much as $19 million with more than $13 million guaranteed.

The fact that the Vikings extended Phillips’ contract speaks to the impact he has made under defensive coordinator Brian Flores. Maybe the biggest strength for Phillips is his versatility as he has filled a number of different roles up front since Flores has taken over.

That was evident on Sunday at MetLife Stadium as Phillips played a big part in the Vikings earning an impressive 28-6 win over the New York Giants in their 2024 season opener. He was extremely disruptive from the first defensive snap of the game and made life miserable for maligned Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
