Gunfire just outside Northtown Mall leads to arrest and lockdown of shopping center Sunday

Authorities say that at least one gunman fired shots outside one of the doors leading into Northtown Mall in Blaine on Sunday afternoon, but no one was injured, according to a news release from the Blaine Police Department

About 3:30 p.m. Sunday police received multiple 911 calls about gunshots being fired outside the mall. Officers from Blaine, Fridley, Coon Rapids, Ramsey, Spring Lake Park, Columbia Heights, deputies from the Anoka County sheriff’s office and troopers from the state patrol locked down the mall and cleared it for any potential threats.

During a search of the area, one man was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Preliminary investigation from video surveillance footage and evidence shows a fight between two groups spawned the shooting. No injuries from the shooting have been reported, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information was available Sunday night.
