FOXBORO — The Patriots claimed four players off waivers Wednesday afternoon.
The Patriots claimed offensive tackles Demontrey Jacobs and Zachary Thomas from the Broncos and Rams, respectively, linebacker Curtis Jacobs from the Chiefs and defensive tackle Eric Johnson from the Colts.

After setting their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, the Patriots already turned over 7.5% of their roster. The Patriots must release four players from their initial 53-man roster to make room for Jacobs, Thomas, Jacobs and Johnson.
Demontrey Jacobs, 25, went undrafted out of USF in 2023. The 6-foot-6, 315-pound offensive lineman played 101 snaps at left tackle in the preseason this summer.
Thomas, 26, was selected by the Bears in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of San Diego State. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound offensive lineman played 35 snaps at left tackle for the Rams last season. He moved to guard this preseason.
Curtis Jacobs, 22, went undrafted out of Penn State this spring. The 6-foot-1, 238-pound linebacker ran a 4.58-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Johnson, 26, has spent two seasons with the Colts since being selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Missouri State. He has 18 tackles and one sack in 28 career games.
No players waived by the Patriots on Monday or Tuesday were claimed.
For now, Demontrey Jacobs and Thomas join Vederian Lowe, Chukwuma Okorafor, Michael Onwenu and Caedan Wallace on the 53-man roster at tackle. Curtis Jacobs joins Ja’Whaun Bentley, Christian Elliss, Raekwon McMillan and Jahlani Tavai at linebacker. Johnson joins Daniel Ekuale, Davon Godchaux, Trysten Hill and Jeremiah Pharms Jr. at defensive tackle. Since the Patriots need to clear four spots, it’s possible that some of those players will be cut or placed on injured reserve to make room for the new additions.
There’s one common thread with the Patriots’ waiver claims. They’re all good athletes.
Here are the new Patriots additions’ 40-yard dash times:
Thomas: 4.96 seconds
Demontrey Jacobs: 5.17 seconds
Johnson: 4.87 seconds
Curtis Jacobs: 4.58 seconds
