WEEI major shakeup amid brutal ratings: Boston radio station announces new midday, afternoon shows

As WEEI’s midday and afternoon ratings continue to struggle, the Boston radio station has announced a major shakeup.

The midday show with Andy Gresh and Christian Fauria, “Gresh and Fauria,” is no more — and the afternoon show with Adam Jones, Meghan Ottolini (formerly of the Herald) and Christian Arcand, “Jones and Mego,” is breaking up.

Jones and weeknight host Rich Keefe are reuniting for a new midday show called “Jones and Keefe.” The pair previously had a show on 98.5 The Sports Hub, which has now been dominating the local radio market for several years.

Meanwhile, the station is elevating Andy Hart as afternoon show co-host alongside Arcand, which will be called “The WEEI Afternoon Show.”

Ottolini will remain with the station as a full-time writer, succeeding Hart, and as a fill-in on-air host.

“These exciting updates bring together a dynamic mix of talent with New England roots that will continue to deliver top-tier content to Boston’s biggest sports fans,” Mike Thomas, senior VP and market manager of Audacy Boston, said in a statement.

“Adam Jones and Rich Keefe’s notable on-air styles and rapport will energize our midday show, while Andy Hart and Christian Arcand’s experience will help bolster afternoon drive,” Thomas added. “We’re looking forward to this next chapter of WEEI weekdays continuing to make WEEI the go-to destination for everything Boston sports.”

The morning show “The Greg Hill Show,” which has been drawing solid ratings, is not part of the shakeup.

In addition to the brutal ratings for the midday and afternoon shows, these moves come in the wake of Audacy emerging from bankruptcy following a drop of several billion dollars in radio ad spending. George Soros’ investment firm became the largest shareholder of Audacy.

Then Audacy in the spring announced “difficult but necessary” cuts, including laying off a WEEI Patriots reporter on the eve of the NFL Draft.
