Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, commits to University of Miami to play golf

Former president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump famously loves to play golf, and he helped pass that love on to his granddaughter.

Kai Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump and the eldest of Trump’s 10 grandchildren, announced she had verbally committed to play golf at the University of Miami. Kai Trump announced her decision to join the UM team on her Instagram page on Sunday night.

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Miami,” Kai Trump wrote on Instagram. “I would like to thank my mom, Vanessa, and my dad, Don, for always supporting me through my journey. I would also like to thank my great team for getting me to this point. I would like to thank my Grandpa for giving me access to great courses and tremendous support. I would also like to thank my Mormor for always believing in me. I would also like to thank my entire family for always encouraging and pushing me to be the best person I can possibly be. I would like to thank my friends for always cheering me on. Last but not least I would love to thank Coach Janice (Olivencia) and Coach Jim (Garren) for giving me this opportunity. I am (super) excited to be a (‘Cane) and represent the University of Miami. Gooo Canes!”

As Trump has not signed a National Letter of Intent, the University of Miami and its officials cannot comment on her commitment; UM only confirmed that it is recruiting her. Trump is a junior at the prestigious Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens, so she would not sign her letter of intent until 2025.

The 17-year-old Trump has proven herself to be a proficient golfer, reportedly winning the ladies championship at the Trump International Golf Club earlier this year.

According to her Next College Student Athlete (NCSA) recruiting profile, Trump averages a score of 73. Her tournament average is listed at 75. Last year, while playing under the name Kai Haydon (her step-grandfather and grandmother’s last name), Trump finished six shots off the leader at the regional tournament. She finished tied for eighth in Benjamin’s district tournament.

Trump spoke about her grandfather and their shared love of golf during the Republican National Convention in July.

“He calls me during the middle of the school day to ask how my golf game is going, and tells me all about his,” she said. “But then I have to remind him that I’m in school and I’ll have to call him back later.”
