Longtime WBZ reporter Christina Hager leaves Boston TV station: ‘Really hard to say goodbye’
A staple on WBZ broadcasts for more than 25 years is saying goodbye.
Longtime reporter Christina Hager is leaving TV news after 33 years in the biz, she and the station announced as Hager changes careers.
The Boston TV station gave her a sendoff during the Friday broadcast.
“This is a really bittersweet day here at WBZ,” anchor David Wade said. “After 25 years with us, Christina Hager is leaving TV news.”
Hager has covered major breaking news events, trials, I-Team investigations, elections, storms and more over the decades.
Some of the notable stories she covered included the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Boston Marathon bombings, and the Sandy Hook school shooting.
Anchor Lisa Hughes during the broadcast noted Hager’s “hallmark tenacity, compassion and curiosity.”
“Christina is a terrific journalist and a friend and a colleague we will miss,” Hughes said.
WBZ showed clips of Hager’s reporting from over the years. She joined WBZ in 1999.
“Wow,” Hager said after the trip down memory lane. “Whoever produced and edited that, what a walk through the decades.”
“Looking at that, you see all those people I’ve talked to,” she added. “It’s mind boggling through the years. People who’ve trusted me with their stories. What an honor… I’m moving on to the next chapter, but I’m just always going to be so proud of my time here, and with people like you, such a talented team. What an honor.”
Hager thanked the viewers during the broadcast.
