Red Sox expected to activate first baseman Friday
For the first time since April, the Red Sox will have a healthy Triston Casas in their lineup.
The first baseman, 24, ended his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Friday and headed to Baltimore to join the big-league team. He’s expected to be activated and in the lineup for the second contest of their ongoing four-game series with the Orioles.
The news, first reported by MassLive’s Chris Cotillo and confirmed to the Herald by a team source, could provide a much-needed boost for a Red Sox team that is 2-6 in their last eight games and falling fast out of playoff contention.
Casas finished third in American League Rookie of the Year voting last year. He’s only played 22 regular-season games this year, but he was already showing off his enormous power potential early on, with three doubles and six home runs among his 19 hits. He’s has been out of the lineup since April 20, when he suffered a rib cartilage injury while swinging during an at-bat.
The Red Sox and Orioles play Friday night at 7:05 p.m. ET.
