Election 2024: Where is Walz today?
As Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Gov. Tim Walz is currently balancing running Minnesota with running as the Democratic vice presidential candidate in the 2024 race for the White House.
It’s a balancing act, for sure.
So, with 83 days to go until the election, we wondered: Where is Walz?
We’ll update this report as information becomes available.
Tuesday, Aug. 13
As Minnesota voters head to the polls on Tuesday for Minnesota’s 2024 primary election, the governor will be in California.
Walz is set to speak Tuesday at the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees convention in Los Angeles before headlining a campaign fundraiser in Newport Beach, Calif., according to the Associated Press.
Monday, Aug. 12
If last week was about introductions for Walz, this week is about fundraising.
Walz is scheduled to travel to five states in three days this week, the Associated Press reports. His travels will take him from California to Boston, according to the AP.
On Tuesday, he is traveling to Los Angeles to speak at the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees convention.
After that, he’ll attend a series of fundraisers around the country.
The first fundraiser is in Newport Beach, California. On Wednesday, Walz will address fundraisers in Denver and Boston, and he’ll do more of the same on Thursday in Newport, Rhode Island, and Southampton, N.Y.
Sunday, Aug. 11
On Sunday, Walz was reportedly back in Minnesota while Harris was back in her home state of California for a fundraiser.
Walz could still be spotted on social media, though: He posted a video of himself reflecting on his first week as a candidate for vice president:
“Well, not a normal week,” he said in the video posted on X, “which is a good thing.
“Started out missing a call from the vice president, pretty important one. And then got that call and honored to join the ticket with Kamala Harris to take us in a great direction. After that, it has been a whirlwind. We got on a plane and flew to Philly and they told me that in an hour I’d be giving a speech and there’d be a teleprompter, something I had never used in my life. So I’m certainly terrified, but was lifted up by the folks in Philly.”
He went on to talk about heading to western Wisconsin for a rally in Eau Claire, “to a field that felt a little closer to home, with a whole bunch of folks, a lot of joy there …”
After that, it was on to Detroit, where he “talked about Motown a bit, and then saw 15,000 folks decide they want to take this country in a direction that everybody does matter.”
He appeared in the American West in the video, as he mentioned “out here in Phoenix and Las Vegas, same thing. Record crowds of people gathering …”
Tuesday, Aug. 6
Walz started the day in Minnesota as the governor, and ended it in Philadelphia as the Democratic vice presidential nominee.
Harris chose Walz as her running mate on Tuesday, introducing him at a rally Tuesday evening in Philadelphia.
Taking the microphone after Harris, Walz revved up the crowd for the rigorous campaign to come:
“We’ve got 91 days,” he said. “My God, that’s easy. We’ll sleep when we’re dead.”
