Environmental comment period open for Thomson Reuters redevelopment scenarios

The city of Eagan is seeking public comments on a draft of two different development scenarios for 179 acres of the former Thomson Reuters campus at 610 Opperman Drive.

Local real estate developer Ryan Cos., which entered a purchase and sale agreement with Thomson Reuters earlier this year, is preparing an Alternative Urban Areawide Review, a type of environmental assessment, for the parcel and the draft is now open for public comment.

One of many steps in the redevelopment process, the draft AUAR evaluated two options: a major office scenario consistent with the city’s adopted 2040 Comprehensive Plan and a light industrial and residential scenario, according to a city news release.

Outlined in Ryan’s redevelopment proposal, their future plans for the site would include 120 acres allocated to industrial use in the central and eastern portion of the site, which could include a data center, research and laboratory spaces and an office showroom. The remaining 59 acres would have a mix of housing types including townhomes, twin homes and single-family homes.

During the public comment period, which closes Sept. 12, the city will accept written comments via mail or email. The draft AUAR can be viewed at cityofeagan.com/environmental-reviews.

Those looking for more information can attend an open house at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at Eagan City Hall.
