Patriots extra points: Young receiver has ‘not a doubt’ he’ll make the team
Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte led the team with three catches in last week’s preseason opener against Carolina. During Sunday’s practice, he made three more in team periods, including a couple that sustained Drake Maye’s closing hurry-up drive.

A year after making the 53-man roster outright as a rookie with similar preseason and training camp performances, Boutte feels history will repeat itself.
“I feel like we’re all fighting for a job, but there’s not a doubt in my mind that I’m gonna make the team,” Boutte said after Sunday’s practice. “You know, I feel like I’m doing everything that I’m supposed to make the team.”
At training camp, Boutte has often worked with the second- and third-team offenses, with K.J. Osborn, Tyquan Thornton and DeMario Douglas sitting atop the wide receiver depth chart.
In five game appearances, Boutte caught two passes for 19 yards last season. For most games, the LSU product was a healthy scratch.
Extra points
Sunday’s workout was open only to season-ticket holders, who heard from Jerod Mayo and the team’s coordinators — Alex Van Pelt, Demarcus Covington and Jeremy Spring — before practice. According to ESPN, Van Pelt said of Drake Maye: “We’ve cleaned up his footwork … the biggest thing I’ve seen from him is the ability to process quickly. He can go from the first read to the third read very quickly. He sees the field really well.” … All fans can attend the Patriots’ next two practices scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. The Pats will welcome the Eagles for a joint session at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, often one of the best practices of the year. … Veteran offensive tackle Chukwuma Okorafor was critical of his play in Thursday’s preseason opener, saying he believed he played too high. Okorafor had missed three practices before jumping into game action and returned to his usual position of right tackle in the game and Sunday’s practice.
