Red Sox lineups: Rafael Devers gets day off for Astros series finale
Rafael Devers is not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Houston Astros, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora says the All-Star third baseman is just getting a day off.
“He’s been grinding through it and it makes sense today,” Cora said. “Hopefully tomorrow he’ll be back.”
Devers has been battling a shoulder injury throughout the majority of the season, but for the most part it hasn’t affected his performance or availability. The 27-year-old is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career, and he’s currently batting .300 with 25 home runs, 71 RBI and a .973 OPS.
Nick Sogard will start at third base in his place, with David Hamilton at shortstop, Enmanuel Valdez at second base and Dominic Smith at first. Ceddanne Rafaela will start in center field and left-hander James Paxton (9-3, 4.42) will take the mound against Houston’s Hunter Brown (9-7, 3.98).
