Bon Iver to perform at Kamala Harris’ Eau Claire campaign rally on Wednesday
Grammy-winning Eau Claire, Wis., indie rock band Bon Iver will perform at a hometown campaign rally for Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday.
The Harris campaign announced the news Monday in a statement that read: “Lead singer Justin Vernon will be joined by bandmates Sean Carey and Michael Lewis to celebrate the state two of them call home and where Bon Iver was founded.”
Those interested in attending can register at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s website, mobilize.us/wisdems. The exact time and location of Wednesday’s event in Eau Claire has yet to be announced.
Eau Claire native Justin Vernon founded the group in 2006 and earned acclaim for the album “For Emma, Forever Ago,” which Vernon spent three months recording in a secluded Wisconsin cabin. The follow-up, 2011’s “Bon Iver, Bon Iver,” earned Vernon four Grammy nominations and wins for best new artist and best alternative album.
But instead of taking advantage of that new visibility, Vernon put Bon Iver on ice and focused on other projects. The group re-emerged in 2015 to headline the Eaux Claires Music Festival in Eau Claire, an event founded by Vernon and Aaron Dessner of the National that ran for four years.
In 2018, Bon Iver participated in a four-night residency at St. Paul’s Palace Theatre in a collaboration with St. Paul’s TU Dance. The band toured the following year in support of their fourth album “I, I” and headlined St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center that October.
More recently, Vernon collaborated with Taylor Swift on songs on her albums “Folklore” and “Evermore.” Last year, he was a guest on country star Zach Bryan’s EP “Boys of Faith.”
As noted by the Harris campaign, Bon Iver has regularly done Get Out The Vote events in Wisconsin. In 2022, they launched a nonpartisan effort For Wisconsin to “encourage people to bridge their differences and engage in the political process.”
Bon Iver also performed at Eau Claire rallies in 2016 and 2020 for Sen. Bernie Sanders.
