FlixBus launches at downtown St. Paul Union Depot
Heading out by bus from downtown St. Paul to Milwaukee, Duluth or Rochester? That coach bus you’ll be boarding at the Union Depot transit hub just might be a FlixBus.
The company, a subsidiary of German-based Flix SE, bought Greyhound in 2021 and has been gradually expanding its brand in locations where Greyhound and operating partners like Jefferson Lines and Trailways already offer service. In downtown St. Paul, FlixBus rolled into the Union Depot on Fourth Street on Thursday, sharing space in the Greyhound ticketing counter.
It’s the latest tenant to occupy Ramsey County’s cavernous Union Depot, a 1923 intermodal station that underwent a $243 million renovation in 2012. The historic depot is frequently short on foot traffic, but a few new tenants this year have added some overdue energy.
Amtrak’s Borealis train service launched in May, rolling out toward Chicago shortly before noon daily and making a return stop in the early evening. A new restaurant and bar, the 1881 by Lake Elmo, will open Thursday, offering food and drinks from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Choo Choo Bob’s toy train store also relocated to the Union Depot this year.
