Fringe review: A ‘Star Wars’-shaped sex life is examined in ‘The Princess Strikes Back’
Worth considering
Chicago actor Victoria Montalbano has developed a reputation as an outstanding storyteller as she treks from Fringe to Fringe, and it’s easy to see why in “The Princess Strikes Back: One Woman’s Search for the Space Cowboy of her Dreams,” a monologue about her sexual history as seen through the prism of how “Star Wars” films have shaped her desires and relationships from ages 13 to 40. Employing a microphone unnecessary in Open Eye’s intimate space (save for when she imitates Darth Vader) and clad in a facsimile of Princess Leia’s gold bikini from “Return of the Jedi,” Montalbano makes her story less kiss-and-tell than a consistently engaging journey of self-discovery.
Presented by Victoria Montalbano at Open Eye Theatre; 7 p.m. Aug. 3, 10 p.m. Aug. 6, 5:30 p.m. Aug. 9, 4 p.m. Aug. 11
