Red Sox lineup: Danny Jansen to serve as DH in Boston debut

Newly acquired Danny Jansen will serve as Boston’s designated hitter in his Red Sox debut on Sunday night.

The former Toronto Blue Jays catcher is batting seventh as the Red Sox look to take two of three from the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball. Usual starting DH Masataka Yoshida is not in the starting lineup, and the Red Sox are opting for a heavily right-handed lineup against Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (10-7, 4.42).

Jarren Duran will play center field and lead off, Rob Refsnyder will start in left field and bat second, and Tyler O’Neill will play right field and bat fifth. Ceddanne Rafaela will start at shortstop and in the eight hole and Jamie Westbrook will play second base and bat ninth.

With the bullpen heavily depleted, the Red Sox will be counting on their ace Tanner Houck to pitch deep into the game. Houck (8-6, 2.71) has gone six innings in each of his past two starts, and in his only other start against the Yankees this season he allowed one earned run over 3.1 innings in an outing that was disrupted by a 45-minute rain delay.
