Fatal crash kills MassDOT worker on Route 24 highway in Bridgewater
A vehicle fatally hit a MassDOT worker picking up debris on the side of the Route 24 highway in Bridgewater Saturday night, Plymouth County DA Timothy Cruz reported Sunday.
At about 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, a car on Route 24 northbound hit a MassDOT worker on the job outside of their vehicle near Exit 28B, the DA’s office said in a statement. The worker sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The worker has been identified as David Sousa, 57. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, the DA said.
The driver who hit Sousa remained on the scene, the statement said.

All northbound lanes on Route 24 remained closed for the scene investigation from around 10:30 p.m. Saturday to 1:20 a.m. Sunday, the DA’s office said.
Massachusetts State Police, along with State Police detectives from the Plymouth DA’s Office, a Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services, responded to the scene.
