VIDEO: Futuristic electric supercar worth £140,000 spotted on UK roads for the first time

A futuristic car spotted tearing through UK streets for the first time ever has sent petrolheads into a frenzy. The clip, captioned ‘what car is this?’ appears to show a heavily modified, aggressive-looking,  wide-bodied vehicle blasting through East London, near Olympic Park.

The car in question is the yet-to-be-released Renault 5 Turbo 3E, which the manufacturer describes as a fully electric mini supercar. What makes this footage particularly remarkable is that this is believed to be the first time the vehicle has ever been seen on UK roads.

The clip has been widely shared on Instagram and racked up 200,000 views and 2,000 likes. No customers have received one yet, with deliveries not expected to begin until 2027. That means the car captured on camera is likely a prototype.

Despite its compact size and sharing its name with the normal Renault 5 hatchback, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is anything but subtle.

With a staggering 550bhp, the electric motor has been dubbed a mini supercar thanks to its extreme performance and radical design, with a 0-60mph figure of under 3.5 seconds.

It’s also set to carry a big price tag, with reports suggesting a starting price of around £140,000. Adding to the exclusivity, Renault plans to produce just 1,980 units globally.

The Turbo 3E isn’t just another electric vehicle, it’s a modern reinvention of the mid-engined Renault 5 Turbo from the 1980s. The original became a cult classic thanks to its rally heritage. This new version features a futuristic twist, including an ultra-wide stance and aggressive design.

Unsurprisingly, social media users were quick to react to the viral clip, with many stunned by the car’s appearance. Several commenters were quick to correctly guess the mystery car’s make and model.

One said: Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

One commenter joked: That’s that car from GTA 5.

Another commented: Silent rocket.
