High school roundup/scores: Norwell’s Nicholas Fein beats buzzer with long 3-pointer

Nicholas Fein drilled a turnaround three-pointer near half court as time expired as No. 13 Norwell (16-6) upset No. 4 Swampscott, 43-42, in Div. 3 second-round boys basketball action.

With Swampscott fans chanting in anticipation of victory, Fein took the inbounds pass, dribbled further away from the basket to avoid a double team, and launched a shot that hit nothing but net, prompting a wild on-court celebration for Norwell.

Thomas Berhmann dropped 21 points as No. 8 Medfield (19-3) topped No. 24 Pembroke, 50-41.

Girls basketball

In a Div. 1 second-round matchup, Kiera Lenihan recorded 20 points while Kallie Martin drained five 3-pointers to lead No. 4 Andover (21-1) to a 55-43 victory over No. 13 Westford Academy. … Eva Andrews and Hannah Levine each had 16 points as No. 9 Needham (16-6) took down No. 8 Woburn 54-46. … Kate Sweeney (16 points) and Frankie Mazzini (15 points were an effective one-two scoring punch for seventh-seeded Braintree, helping lead a 45-33 win over No. 10 Billerica.

Alissa Marcella hit a pair of free throws with 5.8 seconds left in regulation to lift No. 6 Pembroke (15-7) over No. 11 East Bridgewater 44-43 in the Div. 3 second round. … Celia Neilson (25 points, 7 rebounds, five steals) and Caitlin Boyle (13 points, 6 rebounds, five steals) paced No. 1 Bishop Fenwick (17-5) to a 56-29 victory over No. 16 Lynnfield.

Boys hockey

Braydon Connors potted two goals, scoring his first alongside Teddy Tsoutsouris and Cam Casey in a three-goal first period that No. 9 Essex Tech used to beat No. 8 Marlboro, 4-0, in the Div. 3 second round. The Hawks clinched their third state quarterfinal appearance in four years, still searching for the program’s first state semifinal trip.
