Woman critically injured in St. Paul hit-and-run, 2nd in the city in a week
A woman was critically injured Monday in a hit-and-run crash, the second such incident in less than a week in St. Paul.
Officers on patrol came across the woman lying in the road near Rice Street and Pennsylvania Avenue at 6:22 p.m. Monday. She had life-suffering injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle, said Alyssa Arcand, a St. Paul police spokeswoman.
St. Paul Fire Department medics took the woman to Regions Hospital, where she was in critical condition as of Tuesday morning. Investigators are working to find the driver.
A hit-and-run crash from Wednesday also remains under investigation. A driver struck Donald John Piele, of St. Paul, when the 66-year-old was on a mobility scooter. It happened about 9:10 p.m. Wednesday at Phalen Boulevard and Rose Avenue. Piele died at the hospital the next day.
