Boston Weather: ‘Unsettled’ periods of snow, wintry mix coming amid warmer week
Boston is expected to see periods of snow and rain throughout the upcoming week, as highs remain well above freezing for the area, according to National Weather Service forecasts.
“Just a fairly unsettled week overall, especially after midweek,” said NWS meteorologist Caitlyn Mensch. “Not expecting anything major, but it could bring a little bit of nuisance wintry or wintry-mix type precipitation. You could get a couple of systems that lead to that, so generally unsettled.”
Despite the regular periods of precipitation, Boston is not expected to see “major impacts” in the coming week, Mensch said, as snow remains lighter and temperatures warmer.
Presidents’ Day is forecast to kick off the week with some possible light precipitation early, before skies are likely to clear throughout the day, NWS states. The high is likely to reach the upper 30s in the Boston area.
“If anyone’s planning on heading out tomorrow, it looks like pretty benign weather overall,” Mensch said of the holiday. “And just nicer temperatures than we felt the last couple weeks, for sure.”
Two systems are expected to move through around the same time Sunday night, Mensch said, but not bring a “ton of impact” other than some light snow showers across portions of interior western Massachusetts and Connecticut and the far south coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island with very minor accumulations through early Monday.
Tuesday may see some isolated flurries early and partly sunny skies during the day, reaching a high in the low 40s, forecasts show.
“We do have a midweek system that’s possible,” said Mensch. … “It actually starts to really take that turn to being more unsettled mid- to late week. Within this pattern, it really just means that we’re going to have a couple of disturbances that move through after midweek.”

Wednesday through Friday all show chances of rain and snow throughout the day and night, according to forecasts. Highs through the end of the work week are expected to remain in the lower 40s, with lows in the low 30s to upper 20s, NWS shows.
Chances of snow and rain are preliminarily expected to remain heading into the weekend, forecasts show.
“Because it’ll be marginally on the line of freezing and a little above freezing, it could result in more of a wintry or mixed precipitation type events midweek into all the way into next weekend possibly,” Mensch said.
