High school roundup/scores: Braintree gets reward for epic turnaround

What a difference a year made for the Braintree girls hockey team.

The Wamps, who went 2-18-1 last season, clinched a state tournament berth Saturday with a 4-0 Bay State Conference win over Needham. Emily McDonough scored twice for Braintree (9-4-3) while Katherine McDonough dished three assists and Sienna Cadigan posted a shutout.

Boys hockey

John Connolly had three assists and Michael Rowan scored two goals and added an assist to lead Belmont to a Middlesex League victory over Woburn. … Emrick O’Brien (goal, assist) led five different goal-scorers Wilmington (9-7-1) used to edge Melrose, 5-3. … Antonio Carpentieri scored twice as Stoneham blanked Watertown 5-0.

Cam Keane, Dylan O’Connell, Will Zolkowski, Parker Willard and Owen Adams tallied goals in Dedham’s 5-1 nonleague victory over Apponequet on senior day. … Arlington Catholic head coach Curt Colarullo secured his 100th win Saturday with the Cougars 4-2 victory over King Philip

Dracut/Tyngsboro clinched its second consecutive MVC/DCL 3 title with a 2-2 tie with Bedford. … Kyle Novo and Will Buckley scored two goals apiece to help Lowell earn a 8-2 victory over Cambridge.

Brauer Malcolm notched a 25-save shutout, backing a well-balanced attack for Natick (8-8-2) in a 4-0 Bay State Conference win over Walpole. Silly Brown, Joe MacDonnell and Peter Bracken each had a goal and assist, and the RedHawks earned a fifth win in six games.

Boys basketball

Tavras Biskis led the way with 18 points and Landon Lepine added 14 as Martha’s Vineyard cruised over Dover-Sherborn 58-36 in nonleague action.

In the Boston City League, Krem Amparo had a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards as Latin Academy topped Tech Boston 55-43.
