Boston Weather: Warmer seasonal days incoming, more snow
Boston is in for a slight break from the frigid, arctic temperatures and periods of lighter snow in the coming week, according to National Weather Service forecasts.
“We’ll get a nice break at least — it’ll be sunny with near normal temperatures,” said NWS meteorologist Francis Tarasiewicz. “So it’ll feel a lot better than we’ve had recently.”
The week is set to kick off Monday on a “slightly colder note,” said Tarasiewicz, with high in the upper 20s. Gusty winds are set to continue through the day, with speeds up to 21 mph, and skies should remain clear throughout the day, forecasts show.
On Tuesday, forecasts expect increasing clouds throughout the day, and highs jumping up above freezing into the low 30s. The nighttime low is forecast to remain relatively warmer in the mid-20s.
Snow may begin in the afternoon Tuesday, continuing through the night, forecasts show.
“By Tuesday, we’ll have a week Alberta Clipper low pressure system move in,” said Tarasiewicz. “And that could bring an additional one to two inches of snow.”
A slight chance of snow continues through the afternoon Wednesday, according to NWS forecasts. Skies are expected to remain cloudy, with a high in the mid-30s and gusty winds throughout the day.
Temperatures are preliminarily forecast to continue to track closer to “seasonal averages” through to the weekend, Tarasiewicz said. Thursday through the weekend are expected to see highs around the mid-30s and mostly clear to partly cloudy skies, NWS forecasts.
As upper temperatures remain above freezing, the meteorologist stated, the Boston region could see some of the snow melt.

“We’ll certainly see improvements like road conditions,” Tarasiewicz said. “Roads that are currently ice packed and frozen will start to warm up as that sunshine works on them. A couple things to look forward to.”
The longer term outlook, Tarasiewicz said, still looks around “near to maybe slightly below average.”
In the weekend and following week, the meteorologist added, there is a “very low chance for another storm system.”
“The details are very uncertain there,” Tarasiewicz said. “That’s kind of next week’s thing.”
