Drake Maye the toast of MAYE-nard
Patriots QB Drake Maye is bringing winning ways back to New England, and one Massachusetts town is looking to hop on the fun with a potential name change.
The town of Maynard wants to change its name in honor of Maye on Super Bowl Sunday.
The Maynard Select Board is set to vote on Tuesday whether to adopt a new town name of “Maye-nard” for the day of the big game.
Select Board Chairman Davd D. Gavin says changing the town name to “Maye-nard” would recognize and support the Patriots and their MVP candidate quarterback.
Maynard, of nearly 11,000 residents, is a former compact mill town roughly 22 miles west of Boston.
“I hope you will express your support for this fun motion intended to highlight our community and our excitement of having our team back in the Super Bowl!” Gavin said in a social media post on Thursday.
“Should you agree, feel free to send supportive emails encouraging a YES vote from the Board,” he added. “Let’s Go Patriots ! Maynard loves you!”
Maye has gained stardom in his second season, completing 72% of his passes for 4,394 yards with 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions in the regular season. He also added 450 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
Maye’s Patriots finished 14-3 with the No. 2 seed in the AFC and has advanced to the Super Bowl after playoff wins against the Chargers, Texans and Broncos — a turnaround that very few saw coming after New England finished 4-13 the past two seasons.
