Boston Police Blotter: Haverhill accountant ran ‘house of prostitution’ from his office
An 80-year-old Haverhill accountant pleaded guilty in Essex Superior Court Friday to charges of maintaining a house of prostitution, and possession with intent to distribute charges for suboxone, gabapentin, and marijuana, as well as a fentanyl possession charge.
“I am embarrassed and I am very sorry,” John Caruso told the judge after entering his plea.
Police started investigating Caruso after a young woman overdosed in his River Street accounting office on Jan. 8, 2024. Prosecutors say that investigators determined that from at least June 2021 through February of 2024, Caruso was paying women with money and drugs to have sex with him and other men. He operated it all from his accounting office in a building he owned.
Judge Elizabeth Dunigan sentenced Caruso to three years and one day in state prison to be followed by two years of probation. Caruso will have to register as a sex offender and submit to drug screenings.
Prosecutor Jessica Strasnick read victim impact statements in court. One person wrote of the “atrocities committed” by Caruso and stated, “He has destroyed many lives and has profited from others’ misery.”
Mass and Cass is cracked
The open drug dealing continues in the Boston’s Mass and Cass area, as police say they recovered 19 bags of crack, seven of which also contained fentanyl, from a suspected drug dealer.
Luis Martinez Agramonte, 25, of Dorchester, faces multiple firearm and drug possession and distribution charges after Boston Police Department officers arrested him Friday morning.
Police say that the citywide Neighborhood Engagement Safety Team was conducting a check in the 700-block of Albany Street, which is part of Boston’s infamous Mass and Cass corridor, when they observed the telltale signs of a drug deal. Officers approached and arrested Agramonte before he could escape on an electric bicycle, according to a BPD statement.
Officers searched him and say they found 12 packets of suspected crack cocaine and seven more packets that had fentanyl mixed in. They say they also found a firearm they are calling a “ghost gun,” which means it’s unable to be tracked either by being homemade or by having its serial number filed off, loaded with 9mm ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash they believe to be drug proceeds.
The alleged purchaser in the purported crack deal, 46-year-old Keith Bradford of Dorchester, faces a single charge of possession of a Class B drug.
